Resumo: este estudo tem por objetivo realizar uma reflexão sobre os impactos da obsolescência tecnológica nas atividades de preservação digital para ressaltar suas principais limitações teóricas e apontar meios de minimizar estes efeitos em longo prazo. A metodologia utilizada consiste no levantamento bibliográfico de materiais previamente publicados e apresenta uma breve revisão de literatura sobre a obsolescência tecno-lógica. Dentre as questões abordadas, destaca-se a necessidade de definir políticas institucionais, bem como, implementar estratégias de preservação e sistemas informatizados. Desta forma, estima-se desenvolver um ambiente confiável para minimizar os efeitos da obsolescência tecnológica e garantir manutenção da autenticidade dos documentos digitais em logo prazo. Por fim, observa-se que a obsolescência manifestada em nível de software se apresenta como o desafio de maior pertinência para a comunidade de preservação, pois ainda não há teorias e nem práticas que comprovem a solução deste problema.
The impacts of technological obsolescence in the preservation of digital records
Abstract: this study aims to reflect on the impacts of technological obsolescence on digital preservation activities to highlight their main theoretical limitations and to point out ways to minimize these effects in long term. The methodology used consists of a literature review of previously published materials and presents a brief review of the literature on technological obsolescence. Among the issues addressed, we highlight the need to define institutional policies, as well as implement preservation strategies and computerized systems. In this way, the development of a reliable environment is estimated to minimize the effects of technological obsolescence and ensure the maintenance of the authenticity of digital records in long term. Finally, it is observed that obsolescence in level of software presents itself as the challenge of greater relevance to the preservation community, since there are still no theories or practices that prove the solution of this problem.
